John Barden

Vice President for Information Technology and Campus Services

Mr. Barden began his career as a consultant with Arthur Andersen with an emphasis on information technology re-engineering and major technology-enabled process improvement projects. His consulting experience spanned a variety of industries, including higher education and healthcare.  

Following those roles, Mr. Barden worked as the Deputy Chief Information Officer at the University of Rochester. During his time at Rochester, he was involved in launching the university’s first institution-wide learning management solution, deploying an integrated data warehouse, completing several major administrative systems transitions, establishing an integrated research computing organization, as well as refining information technology governance and operational practices.  

Prior to being elevated to the role of Vice President for Information Technology at Yale, Mr. Barden served as the Chief Information Officer, starting in 2017. He is responsible for coordinating the collaboration of all IT units across Yale, shares accountability for research computing functions with the Vice Provost for Research, and leads the central IT organization. 

Mr. Barden earned his B.A. in Economics and Management from Albion College and M.B.A. from the Simon School of Business.
